BEARS BEST ATLANTA

Bear’s Best Atlanta compiles the greatest of Jack Nicklaus golf course designs into one 18-hole golf course.

Once ranked among the best courses you can play in America by Golf Digest, the high-end daily-fee course is located in the upscale gated community of Edinburgh. Like its sister course in Las Vegas, Bear’s Best Atlanta is a selection of 18 holes from Jack Nicklaus’ more than 200 course designs worldwide.

Among the featured courses are Castle Pines, Muirfield Village, PGA National’s Champions Course, Sherwood Country Club, Shoal Creek and the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles. The course follows rolling topography and usually boasts excellent conditions as well as large clubhouse, well stocked golf shop, grill and extensive practice facilities.

THE NATIONAL COURSE

The National Golf Club hosts three loops of nine holes, the first two of which, The Ridge and the Bluff were designed by Tom Fazio in 1997. Fazio then completed work on the final nine holes, The Bluff in 2000. The National Course has recently been completely renovated and reopened for play in the Spring of 2014.

There are five sets on all three of the 9 hole loops at the National and all loops have a par 36. The longest combination of any two loops of 9 (the Bluff & Cove) is 7,034 yards.

The National Course winds it way through the forest of Reynolds Lake Oconee and offers some breathtaking views of Lake Oconee. Fairways are undulating and lead to large greens, many of which have false fronts. The National also features well placed bunkers and streams, ponds and the lake itself come into play on many of the holes.

GREAT WATERS COURSE

The Great Waters Golf Course is a Nicklaus Signature Course that opened at Reynolds Lake Oconee in 1992. This course uses Lake Oconee and its wonderful scenery with maximum effect taking the water into account whenever possible and making this course consistently rank in the Top 100 golf courses of America. In fact LINKS Magazine described Great Waters as one of the “10 most significant and influential courses of the past two decades.”

The front 9 of the Great Waters Course has a distinctly ‘Parkland’ feel to it with water coming into play on 6 of the holes that wind their way through the forest of the estate. The back 9 holes though feel completely different with eight of the final nine holes (11-18) featuring the water of Lake Oconee.

There are four different tee positions to choose from on the Great Waters course with the longest yardage measuring almost 7,100 yards.

THE OCONEE COURSE

The Oconee Course is one of the many highlights of Reynolds Lake Oconee. Designed by Rees Jones, the course has been built along the shore line of Lake Oconee and offers some simply outstanding lake views. On many holes golfers are given the option to play safe towards ‘easy’ landing areas or to take on the challenge of carrying corners of the lake and thus offering the best risk / reward layout of any course at Reynolds Lake Oconee.

There are four sets of tees on the Oconee Course with the maximum yardage being 7,029 yards. With many creeks and ponds as well as extensive bunkering, the highlight of the Oconee course is probably the Par 3′s which feature elevated tee positions and water hazards which make for a very exciting tee shot.
