R&A TV to broadcast The Open and Women’s Open, as well as original golf lifestyle content.
R&A launches global golf streaming service as part of membership programme: Golf’s R&A has launched a new global streaming service as part of a wider revamp of its ‘One Club’ direct-to-consumer (DTC) membership platform
Confirmed:
- R&A TV is powered by Endeavor Streaming’s tech platform
- Will feature exclusive coverage of R&A Championships, including The Open and Women’s Open
- Original lifestyle content with YouTuber Rick Shiels and media personality Tisha Alyn also planned
- Tech features include multi-view and live event replays
- Mastercard named exclusive presenting partner of One Club
Context:
The launch of R&A TV forms part of an expanded partnership signed by golf’s governing body with IMG at the start of 2023. The agency giant will also provide additional services for both the men’s and women’s Open Championships, both of which are major tournaments.
The agreement also includes a commitment to further explore opportunities in other areas, including working with Endeavor Streaming on digital content and DTC programming. R&A TV also now means both Opens will be broadcast in dark markets – territories where there is no formal broadcast agreement in place.
In addition to R&A TV, those who sign up to One Club will have access to a golf coaching network, rewards and experiences, entry to virtual global challenges and secure enhanced ticketing opportunities. Members can also interact directly through the platform by providing user-generated content and sharing their own stories and experiences of golf.
Comment:
Neil Armit, chief commercial officer at The R&A, said, “We want golf to be more accessible and appealing for people of all ages and backgrounds. One Club helps to achieve this by bringing fans and golfers closer to the sport they love, whether that is through the excitement and drama of our major championships or the enjoyment they derive from playing the sport year-round.
“We are working closely with Mastercard and other partners to provide them with compelling reasons to immerse themselves in the sport by offering a unique collection of benefits and rewards that enhance their experience of golf and make them feel more connected to it. We believe that this is crucial to inspiring broader interest in the sport and fuelling future growth.”
Coming next:
A new One Club website has been launched and is now available to sign up for free. This year’s Open takes place from 18th to 21st July, followed by the women’s edition from 22nd to 25th August.
