MLS club has been searching for new partner after Centene ended 15-year deal after only eight months.
Major League Soccer’s (MLS) St Louis City have landed a new stadium rights partnership with battery manufacturer Energizer.
Contract:
- CityPark will be renamed Energizer Park
- St Louis City and Energizer to also work together on community initiatives and deliver immersive fan experience with new premium seating area at stadium
Context:
St Louis City have found a new stadium rights partner to replace Centene Corporation. The 15-year deal was signed in February 2022 but the local healthcare company pulled out of the agreement after only eight months, prompting the MLS franchise to rename its home to CityPark.
The value and length of the pact with Energizer have not been disclosed. Recent deals for MLS stadium night rights have been worth in the region of US$3 million to US$10 million, headlined by Los Angeles Football Club’s tie-up with Bank of Montreal (BMO), which is reportedly worth US$100 million in total.
For Energizer, the partnership sees the company join the club’s other St Louis-based sponsors, including Nestlé Purina PetCare, BJC HealthCare and Washington University Orthopedics, Together Credit Union, Lou Fusz Automotive Network, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Enterprise Mobility, World Wide Technology and Moneta.
Comment:
“Energizer is one of the most well-respected, recognisable brands in the world and is part of the fabric of the St Louis region,” said St Louis City SC chief executive Carolyn Kindle. “Energizer aligns with City SC in so many ways – it’s an innovative brand that delivers and embodies long-lasting energy, equaling the passion and energy of our fans on matchdays, and through this partnership shows its commitment to improving the St Louis region.
“We look forward to collaborating with Energizer to be a catalyst for continued growth in St. Louis and cannot wait to see our fans pack Energizer Park starting in 2025.”
Coming next:
The name change to Energizer Park will officially kick in from 1st January 2025 and stadium signage will also be in place for St Louis City’s MLS home opener next season.
