Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) Uefa Champions League final triumph over Inter Milan was watched by an average French television audience of 11.52 million across free-to-air (FTA) channel M6 and pay-TV network Canal+.
Confirmed:
- An average of 8.67 million viewers watched the final on M6, which netted a peak audience of 10.3 million
- A further 2.8 million tuned in for the game on Canal+, which saw its viewership peak at 3.2 million
- The peak audience for the match was a combined 13.5 million, and equated to a market share of 53.1 per cent
- In Italy, an average audience of 6.4 million watched the final on Sky Italia’s FTA channel TV8, which translated into a 35.1 per cent market share
Context:
Despite this being PSG’s first Champions League final victory, the 2025 final was watched by fewer viewers than the team’s previous final appearance in 2020. A defeat to Bayern Munich five years ago gained an average viewership of 12.3 million on TF1 and RMC Sport.
Canal+ holds the French domestic rights to the Champions League as part of a wider deal worth around €480 million per year for all of Uefa’s club competitions. The agreement runs for the current 2024 to 2027 cycle and also gave M6 the FTA rights for the final.
In Italy, TV8 aired the tournament decider, due to legislation that stipulates the game must be shown FTA when an Italian club reaches the final. The Champions League’s rights are jointly owned by Sky Italia and Amazon Prime Video for the ongoing cycle.
