Women’s TGL golf league to launch in winter 2026

Women’s TGL golf league to launch in winter 2026
  • SoFi Center to host WTGL
  • Teams, investors and players to be announced in coming months

A women’s edition of TGL, the tech-focused indoor golf series backed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, will launch later this year.

WTGL’s inaugural season will take place across the winter of 2026/27. The league is a partnership between the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and TMRW Sports, the venture backed by Woods and McIlroy that created the men’s TGL.

WTGL will feature teams of LPGA Tour stars competing across a season of fast-paced, team match play from the custom-built SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

The same venue is used to host matches for TGL, which is currently in its second season running from 28th December to the end of March.

As well as sharing the same venue and format as TGL, and featuring big-name players, WTGL will include additional foundational elements such as mic’d-up moments, rich shot performance data and statistics-based analytics built into the competition.

Details on WTGL teams, investors and players are set to be announced in the coming months. Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, who owns TGL’s Los Angeles Golf Club, has been pushing to add women’s golf teams to TGL and said he “invested under the condition that I’d have a right of first refusal for an LA women’s golf team”.

“Partnering with TMRW Sports on WTGL reflects our belief that innovation can help the game reach new fans and create greater visibility for LPGA athletes,” said LPGA commissioner Craig Kessler.

“I’ve seen how new formats can engage audiences while showcasing both athlete personality and performance, and WTGL brings that spirit of innovation to the women’s game. It creates another global stage for our athletes – one that helps fans connect more deeply with them and continues to elevate the visibility and growth of women’s golf.”

Mike McCarley, founder and chief executive of TMRW Sports, added: “In partnership with the LPGA, WTGL is another step in creating a modern, media-focused version of a centuries-old game that appeals to today’s sports fan.

“Since the launch of TGL a year ago, TMRW Sports has been putting the pieces in place to create a women’s league featuring the best players in the world. Now, along with the LPGA and its athletes, we look forward to creating a stage to help showcase the stars of the LPGA.

“WTGL’s short-form, team golf format will engage new audiences and complement the LPGA Tour’s global appeal.”

The launch of WTGL is the latest move from Kessler, who was appointed last May, to enhance the profile of the LPGA’s players and attract younger viewers

TGL’s debut broadcast in January 2025 managed an average audience of 910,000 on ESPN in the US, peaking at 1.1 million. According to TGL, its first season drew one of the youngest audiences in sports, second only to the National Basketball Association (NBA), in both median age (52) and percentage of audience in the adults 18 to 49 demographic (41 per cent).

Additional research also showed that ten percent of TGL’s viewers who were PGA Tour fans watched more coverage of the tour last season and 32 per cent of TGL’s viewers ages 18 to 34 did not regularly watch the PGA Tour.
