Catapult enhances soccer analysis tech with €78m Impect deal
  • Impect develops tactical insights from almost 150 global soccer leagues
  • Catapult’s suite of player analysis tools to integrate Impect’s software

Sports technology company Catapult has agreed to buy soccer analytics specialist Impect in a deal worth up to €78 million (US$90.2 million).

Australian firm Catapult said it would raise AUS$150 million (US$96.7 million) to fund the acquisition, which includes a AUS$130 million (US$83.8 million) institutional placement and a share purchase plan (SPP) attempting to raise a further AUS$20 million (US$12.9 million).

Impect was founded in 2014 and specialises in cloud-based software that analyses data to create player assessment metrics that inform recruitment, opponent analysis and internal benchmarking capabilities for squad assessment. Each year, its platform provides tactical insights for almost 40,000 games in 150 leagues in 25 countries.

Catapult believes Impect’s technology will enhance its own suite of player performance and video analysis tools and will work to create a unified intelligence platform.

“Teams of every size and ambition recognize they need more than conventional statistics; they need tailored, tactical insights. Impect is this solution, providing teams and federations with a tactical edge by quantifying, visualizing, and embedding soccer intelligence into their daily workflows,” said Will Lopes, Catapult chief executive.

“The combination of Impect and Catapult is great news for our customers, and represents significant progress toward our goal of becoming the global platform for professional sports teams.”

“From the moment our founders heard the vision from Will and the team, it became clear to us that bringing our technology into the Catapult platform represented an opportunity to accelerate our growth, benefit from Catapult’s global scale and industry leadership position, whilst maintaining our steadfast culture of innovation,” added Stefan Reinartz, Impect co-founder and managing director.

“It’s this innovation that drives every decision we make at Impect, and by joining an innovation powerhouse, we’re thrilled to begin a new chapter together as we build a future that is bolder, brighter, and overwhelms our customers with the best product, and the best customer experience.”
