AC Milan extend Emirates shirt sponsorship in ‘€30m-a-year’ deal

Italian soccer heavyweights AC Milan have extended their principal partnership with the Emirates airline.

Contract:

  • Emirates to continue as Milan’s official airline partner and principal partner
  • Multi-year extension reportedly worth more than €30 million (US$34.9 million) a year

Context:

Milan and Emirates have partnered since 2007, with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) flag carrier serving as front-of-shirt sponsor since the 2010/11 season. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the latest extension is set to run for three to five years, meaning the Rossoneri could pocket around €150 million (US$174 million) by the end of the decade.

Emirates already has a strong presence in European soccer as the shirt sponsor of Real Madrid, Arsenal, Benfica and Olympique Lyonnais. In August, German champions Bayern Munich confirmed a second-tier partnership with Emirates after the airline reportedly missed out on a deal to sponsor the Bundesliga club’s shirts.

Comment:

“The renewal of our partnership with Emirates stands as testimony to one of the most historic and admired collaborations in football, a shared journey that looks to the future with ambition and vision,” said Maikel Oettle, chief commercial officer of AC Milan.

“Emirates will continue to stand by our side, helping us strengthen the club’s solid foundations and, together, connect new generations of fans around the world while creating unique experiences that go far beyond the pitch.”

Tim Clark, president of Emirates, added: “We are thrilled to extend our partnership with AC Milan. This collaboration, built on shared values and a mutual commitment to excellence, has created unforgettable experiences for millions of fans worldwide.

“Our deep-rooted relationship with Italy makes this extension a natural next step, as we continue to connect Milan and other Italian cities to the world through Dubai, while bringing Rossoneri fans across our global network closer to their favourite club and players.”
