Influencer KSI invests in non-league football club Dagenham & Redbridge
  • KSI becomes minority owner of East London club
  • Wants to take club to Premier League
  • Daggers were relegated from EFL in 2016

YouTuber KSI has become a shareholder and strategic partner in National League South side Dagenham & Redbridge.

The multi-hyphenate influencer, who was born Olajide Olayinka Williams Olatunji, boasts 75.3 million followers across social platforms and has outlined ambitions for the club to eventually secure promotion to the Premier League.

In a statement, the 32-year-old revealed he has been secretly watching Daggers games on YouTube streams “for months” and plans to attend Saturday’s home encounter with league leaders Dorking Wanderers.

“I’m so excited to start this journey,” KSI said. “It’s gonna be a rollercoaster for sure but I hope to bring Dagenham & Redbridge back to the glory days. And once we reach that point, I want to go even further. Reaching the Premier League would be a dream. And I believe it is 100 per cent doable. It will take a long time, so to the Daggers fans, please be patient.

“I want you to know that I am fully committed to making sure Dagenham & Redbridge is a team that everyone will know worldwide, and will be an exciting team to watch and support.”

While long-term fans of Dagenham & Redbridge might be skeptical of KSI’s intentions and traditionalists might object to the type of attention the influencer will bring to their club, this partnership could elevate the Daggers to new heights.

While celebrity ownership at all levels of English soccer is rising, KSI will bring a completely different audience to Ryan Reynolds at Wrexham, Tom Brady at Birmingham or Snoop Dogg at Swansea.

KSI’s initial commitments may seem hyperbolic but he is a noted soccer fan, was UK president of the Baller League, and started his career making videos about the FIFA video game series. His vast social influence will attract new fans and sponsors to East London and help provide a platform for a potential return to the EFL.
