England’s victory over Wales in their final group stage match of Uefa Women’s Euro 2025 averaged 2.9 million viewers on UK free-to-air (FTA) channel ITV1, more than double the audience that tuned in to Channel 5 for the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup final on the same day.
Confirmed:
- Lionesses’ 6-1 win averages 4.2 million viewers and peaks at 4.6 million on ITV across all devices
- ITV1’s coverage averages 2.9 million and peaks at 4.4 million
- Chelsea’s 3-0 triumph over Paris Saint-Germain in Club World Cup final watched by 1.1 million on UK FTA broadcaster Channel 5
- Audience on Channel 5 peaked at 2.3 million

- France’s 5-2 victory against the Netherlands in Women’s Euros attracts audience of under 2.3 million on France 2 channel.
Context:
The final group stage matches of the Women’s Euros on 13th July clashed with the Club World Cup final. In the UK, the former was the clear winner in terms of viewership, with England versus Wales delivering ITV1’s biggest peak audience of the tournament so far. It also marked the channel’s highest peak since the Britain’s Got Talent final in May and contributed to ITV’s best Sunday night audience volume of the year to date across its family of channels.
For Channel 5, it told BBC Sport that it was “happy” with how many people have watched the Club World Cup games it broadcast. The network struck a deal with the tournament’s global rights holder DAZN to show 23 of the 63 matches.
Channel 5’s viewership figures for the Club World Cup final do not include those who streamed the game for free on DAZN.
In France, the scheduling clash prompted a reshuffle: Les Bleues’ match against the Netherlands was moved from TF1, which instead aired the Club World Cup final, to France 2 under an agreement with state broadcaster France Télévisions.
